What do the candidates and political parties propose on climate change? Are your proposals consistent with what we need to face this unprecedented environmental crisis? In this brief analysis, IPC tries to contribute with the informed vote a few days before the elections, placing emphasis on 4 climatic and environmental lines that we consider key for the coming years: (i) energy transition, (ii) sustainable agriculture, (iii ) economics of climate change and NDC, and (iv) fisheries and marine conservation.
Main conclusions
- In terms of energy transition, the Victoria Nacional and Juntos por el Perú parties are the ones that propose the greatest number of measures related to the proposed indicators.
- Regarding sustainable agriculture, most of the parties comply with establishing proposals in 3/4 defined indicators: (i) improvements in irrigation systems, (ii) family farming and small farming, and (iii) training for better agricultural practices .
- Regarding the economics of climate change and the implementation of the NDC, Victoria Nacional and the Peruvian Nationalist Party meet 4/5 defined indicators.
- In terms of fishing and marine conservation, the Purple Party is the only party that establishes at least one proposal for each of the defined indicators.
The objective of this document is to make visible the priorities of the candidates for the 2021 elections.
