michael jakob

Michael Jakob is Professor of History and Theory of Landscape Architecture at the Haute École du Paysage, d; Ingénierie et d; Architecture from Geneva, associate professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Grenoble.

He is the founder and director of the international comparative literature magazine Compar (a) ison and directs the collections “Paysages” (Infolio) and “di monte in monte” (Tararà). His works include L; émergence du paysage (2004), Paysage et temps (2007) and Le Paysage (2008).

He has more than 20 years of experience in the evaluation, analysis and management of public policies in the environmental field. Professor in economics and environmental policy at the University of Santiago de Chile and consultant for the IDB, World Bank, ECLAC and the United Nations. Head of the Information and Environmental Economy Division of the Ministry of the Environment of Chile (2014-2018), where he was in charge of the implementation of the green growth agenda, the sustainable consumption and production program and the environmental accounts program, among others. Representative of Chile in the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), Green Growth Group of the Pacific Alliance, focal point of IPBES, 10YFP, among others. Worked at the Ministry of the Environment, he was in charge of the design and implementation of Chile’s carbon tax in 2017.

Consultant to the United Nations on tax matters, member of the United Nations Subcommittee on Environmental Taxation and collaborator of the United Nations, the OECD and the ILO. Schumann Scholar at the University of Muenster (Germany) and visiting professor at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Brazil). He was a member of the United Nations secretariat on two occasions, supervising the work of the Tax Committee.

PhD, Master and Degree in Economics, specialized in Environmental Economics, Climate Change and Sustainable Development. Postdoctoral studies in energy economics and energy planning.

More than 18 years of experience in research and consulting activities in projects requested from the public sector and multilateral organizations. University and postgraduate professor and author and co-author of various publications on environmental economics and climate change. Training in negotiation and conflict resolution.
